Montcadi Cava - ~$7

I had high hopes for this wine, as Spanish Cavas are often terrific sparkling-wine values.  A pretty big disappointment, unfortunately.

Like the Ogio Prosecco, this is an off-dry wine. There’s not much to accompany the sweetness, though.  Some simple green apple and a hint of grapefruit, with (though it may be a figment of my imagination) some nuttiness on the finish.  The big bubbles are more reminiscent of Mountain Dew than the méthode Champenoise.

For anyone interested in a better sweet Cava at this price point, I recommend Freixenet’s Carta Nevada NV.

  1. I disagree. I find the taste beyond what was expected in this price line of wine. While I agree the bubbles are more than expected of a sparkling wine, its taste more than compensates for this. Great sparkling wine for the money.

    1. I really enjoyed it and it was nice for a Mimosa too! Not todry pleasantly surprised for the price... although I did have a headache later which might have been something to do with the Champagne =/

    2. I agree. This is a great cava for the price. I love thus! I've tried more expensive Cavas only to be disappointed.

  3. I absolutely love it and it is well liked by those who usually feel that champagne or sparkling wines are too dry. Great for the price!!

  7. This is excellent mimosa cava. It has just the right amount of sweetness. Now that my F&E isn't carrying this (they say it's coming back in as the new owners reestablish connections with vendors) I can't find anything as perfect (flavor, price, able to buy locally) and my weekend mornings are suffering! ;)
